 Beer bars


We see them everywhere in the most touristic places like Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Hua Hin and so on.. - the infamous beer bars.

Typically there is a large area with multiple small bars surrounded by red lights playing loud music. In those beer bars you always find 2 to 10 bar girls actively working, trying to attract potential customers.

Cheap drinks can be found here. A beer usually starts at around 50 baht. Hint: try local spirits, they are super cheap and tasty too! SangSom mixed with Coke is a thai classic.

Once she lured you into the bar, the girls working there will approach you and try to get you into a conversation. If nobody comes to you, don’t hesitate to talk to somebody you find attractive. Often they suggest to play a game, as link of ice breaker.

After some time she will probably ask you for a lady drink. Be nice and offer her a drink! Lady drinks are always a bit more expensive than your drink (100-200 baht). She will get a few baht as commission. Don’t expect her to stay or talk with you for a long time if you don’t offer her a drink.

Sometimes the bar-girl offers you to come with you after some drinks. In the case you agree you have to pay a bar fine. The bar fine is paid to the bar as compensation for the time she will not work in the bar. She will ask you whether you want “short time” or “long time”. Short time is typically 1-3 hours. Long time usually until the next day / morning.

When you decide to take the lady or ladyboy to your room or hotel it is important that you have a guest friendly hotel, also called joiner fee free hotel. Those are the kind of hotels you can browse and find on this website. If your hotel is not joiner friendly you will have to pay per additional person that is staying in your room, often charged at 1000 baht or more per night.

Go-go Bars

Go-go bars, also commonly called Agogo bars, are places where you find a lot of beautiful women standing and dancing on stage, sometimes on the pole. In those bars the girls are often more good looking than in the beer bars. In most Go-go bars will on stage wearing a bikini.

Identically to beer bars, the lady will ask you for a lady drink if you call her to come over to you. Go-go girls are often more touchy and direct than beer bar girls.

The bar / go-go fine will be higher than in beer bars. Expect to pay a fine of 1000 - 1500 baht to take the girl out of the go-go bar. On top to that, you have to arrange yourself with the girl.

Again, if you decide to bring the strip girl home to your hotel or condo, make sure your hotel is bar-girl friendly. Search above for the best hotel for you.

Clubs & Discos

As you may imagine in the tourists hotspots like Pattaya, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Patong, Phuket and Hua Hin, there are a lot of clubs and discos.

The entrance is usually free but drinks are at least twice as expensive as in beer bars. Drinks are similarly priced in Go-go bars. Expect a beer to cost you between 120 and 200 baht if it’s not happy hour.

Here you will also find a lot of women / ladies / girls of all ages which are standing next to a table, looking out for customers while gently dancing. Those girls are mostly “freelancer” girls. More about them in the next paragraph.

Freelancers

Freelancer girls or ladys are not working in a beer bar or Go-go bar but they try to get their customers on their own, meaning you won’t have to pay a bar fine to anyone to take them out. They are looking for ST (short time) or LT (long time) and offer you to come with you to your hotel or room.

Massage

You will notice that there are plenty of massage parlors around. A lot of guests go for a massage every day, it is cheap and relaxing.

Most commonly found in the massage parlours are:

  • Thai massage
  • Oil massage
  • Aroma massage
  • Full body massage

Often when you ask for an oil massage the girl will ask you if you want to have a *special* massage.

If you agree you have to give an extra tip of around 500-1000 baht to the massage girl.

After your “special massage” (also called happy end or happy ending massage) you can share your number or LINE nickname with the massage lady and often she is willing to come later to your hotel room and offer you private massages at your room. This is very convenient if you just want to relax in your room.

But don’t forget: You need a guest friendly hotel where the massage girl can join for free without a joiner fee.
